In the Pennal Forestry, a slowing-the-flow (Slo-Flo) scheme, using natural resources such as woody debris to try to reduce the water flow, is being planned. This will also help to provide more habitats for animals, birds and insects by retaining rainfall nearer to where it falls.
How will this be done? A series of almost 60 measures will be taken by Partneriaeth Pennal in conjunction with Natural Resources Wales – these include 19 culverts to divert water away from water courses and into surrounding land, and 20 wood debris structures in the Cwm Dwr and Cwm Brechiau streams as well as similar steps on agricultural land.
