The Arts

Here is the platform for Pennal Parish folk to display their talents with local history “bites”, poetry, photography, artwork etc.

To get us started, here is a poem from one of the VisitPennal team who is sure you can do better:

Down to the Dyfi

Bluebells swathe the banks
of ancient woodland
near Pennal village
Here Owain walked and
wisdom wound its spell
The dappled light swaddles hope
in the curved arms of the
sessile oaks

A blackbird sings
Each note reverberates and wakes
a thousand anguished breaths of warriors,
sweeping past mossy trunks, over new-born lambs
Here the Old Senedd speeches hang
in the air, remembered too in the towns
Of knowledge

The language lives on…
History and heritage, a glinting sword
cutting through the years
recalling the Bard and his love,
lost to the river and now lying under
the chained church as the melancholic
chimes toll above and below
the tidal sweeps.

The gravestones trace the lines of families,
Living then lying side-by-side, farms then
and now the same
where boys bear names of
Princes from the past.

All here is bound across all time
By the landscape – shaping legends,
Ever-shifting, heaving, moving
Gentle giants
Down to the Dyfi
And On and On…
